Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]FE-CPPC (also known as [18F]fluoroethyl-CPPC or [18F]FCPPC) is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer that selectively targets the colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R). CSF1R is a tyrosine kinase receptor expressed almost exclusively on microglia in the brain, making it a highly specific biomarker for microglial activation and neuroinflammation. Developed by researchers at Sungkyunkwan University and Samsung Medical Center, and further evaluated by institutions including Yale University and the University of Michigan, [18F]FE-CPPC serves as an improved alternative to carbon-11 labeled tracers like [11C]CPPC due to the longer physical half-life of fluorine-18 (110 minutes), which allows for centralized manufacturing and distribution. Preclinical studies in rodent and non-human primate models have demonstrated that [18F]FE-CPPC can successfully cross the blood-brain barrier and quantify changes in microglial CSF1R expression associated with neuroinflammatory states, such as those induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administration.
